i2c-tools software package provides heterogeneous set of I2C tools for Linux, you can install in your Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install i2c-tools
i2c-tools is installed in your system.
Make ensure the i2c-tools package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep i2c-tools *
You will get with i2c-tools package name, version, architecture and description in a table
